Its been about three months now since the internationally criticized "Nirbhaya" rape case happened and predictably reactions in India have moved from ridiculous to humorous.

The absolutely ridiculous part at the time was when ill researched media work came to the fore with a leading national daily even asking for chemical castration as a punitive measure. Now either, it went for a late night edit or there are no quality control measures there because chemical castration is neither a permanent measure nor is it in any manner fool proof.

Since then, a lot of water has flown under the bridge...... but the humorous part was the parliamentary debate on a new bill- which I hope does not get passed because it is inadequate. But a certain Mr. Yadav stated that stalking cannot be a crime because one has to pursue his object of desire?!!! I was stumped when I heard this, surely the electorate cannot be so naïve to elect this man??? I re-played the entire speech on youtube and it was confirmed. The Indian electorate have no right to be angry at its parliamentarians..... when the naïve vote, morons get elected.

In the entire 3 months, what is constant is that women are getting raped each day (I think a statistic says 1 every 12 minutes or so). So is it a law enforcement issue really? You can control riots and terror with intelligence inputs. But how on earth are rapes meant to be minimized?! Now Im sure that a man drunk with lust or rage in his eyes does not really think of law when he is happily and proudly raping a woman! so the fear of reprimand too may not work. So whats the solution to this problem?! surely if the male gender in humans rape women, this should happen with other co inhabitants on earth. Surprisingly these do happen...... our beloved bull elephants (the strong docile animal- which is an epitome of intelligence) are known to sexually harass hippos in Africa (and this is no exaggeration- elephants do try to mate with hippos) because of lack of cow elephants..... African game zone authorities were stumped when they saw such an issue. So they did two things which controlled the problem a) Introduced older and much stronger bulls who would scare the younger bulls b) Introduced female elephants.

Lets take this entire logic to human beings....... Lust is a part of human emotions and we cannot and should not wish it away...... Rapes are derived of two issues.... Excessive lust and unwarranted rage.

Now lust is a deep rooted complex issue. There is a factor of media exposure, changing culture and dress sense as well as lack of values. How do you expect a 20 year old guy in 2nd tier India approach an 18 year old lass wearing so called modern clothes (cannot get that logic because to me tee and jeans is nothing but a western form of salwar kameez) when what he sees freely on internet is all kind of porn, whose mom is daily abused by his dad (verbally and many a times physically). He loses respect for the girl and immediately wants to emulate all that he has seen on the internet. Lack of response from her side leads to acid attacks, molestation and worst scenario rape.

My conclusion is Rape issues cannot be solved unless society takes responsibility, why should the rapist alone be punished when his immediate care givers were so lax towards their social responsibility of converting a child into a good citizen.

Its not only the rapist who deserves capital punishment, his family and immediate care givers atleast deserve life......

The fear of consequences of rape should set into families and not individual and the fear of consequence to family should set into the rapist.

Laws in a democratic civilized world will not address these and hence are rank inadequate!
